  1. If possible read text files with a proportional font such as Courier.

  3. CD-ROM DRIVE
  4. The default is to read a ARCVIEW project from the CD-ROM drive.
  5. On a Windows machine it is assumed that the CD-ROM drive 
  6. is labeled as the f:  or d:drive.
  7. With a UNIX machine it is assumed that the CD-ROM drive
  8. is refered to as  /cdrom
  9. With a Macintosh platform the CD-ROM will be labeled "of97470e"
  10.  
  11. These three platforms should be able to work directly from
  12. the CD-ROM if various "start-up" files are correctly set.
  13. Refer to the other text files within platform folders for
  14. more information.

  16. If one desires to have ArcView data reside on a hard drive rather
  17. than on the CD-ROM, files must be copied to a PC drive -- such as c:
  18.  
  19. To view and manipulate these data sets on a PC, it is 
  20. necessary to create a new directory, to be named "views" 
  21. on local hard drive c:\.  Copy entire contents of directory 
  22. "fsu\views" from cd-rom to "views" on local hard drive c:\
  23.  
  24. The arcview project file rus_geo.apr makes use
  25. of the variable AVDATA to contstruct an appropriate path
  26. to the data directory.  Modify the value set for the 
  27. AVDATA variable as needed.  On a UNIX platform modify the
  28. ".cshrc" file bu setting like SETENV AVDATA /fsu/views.
  29. On a Windows platform modify the "autoexec.bat" file like
  30. this: SET AVDATA C:\fsu/views.  On a Macintosh platform modify
  31. the "startup" file in the Preferences folder of the System folder.

  33. To access the plot files, copy contents of directory "plots" 
  34. to local hard drive.  To access Arc/Info export files, copy 
  35. contents of directory "export" to local hard drive or unix 
  36. directory system.
